To entice my subject matter to visit my small backyard, I’ve filled it with berry bushes and native plants – plus several bird feeders. Bribery works! So far I’ve seen more than 80 different species in or above my yard. I haven’t come close to drawing them all yet – but there’s still time.
As the “artsy-craftsy” kid in school, I knew a career in art was the only way to stay happy, but not wanting to be a “starving artist”, I earned a degree in graphic design and enjoyed full-time work in that field for more than 40 years.
I am fortunate that many people enjoy my fine art and are actually willing to pay for it! Over the years my formerly very realistic style using acrylic paints changed. Now I often work digitally and challenge myself to focus on design, not every feather.
As an active member of the local Zumbro Valley Audubon Chapter, I often lead local bird walks and continue to learn more about birds each day.
Happy birding!
