Being so deeply connected to artistic community collaborations has inspired me to come back to creating my own art, in my home and out in nature with my family, specifically with my 6-year old daughter, Mia. Just as we are instinctively wired to do, Mia and I explore and gather together. We love collecting wild berries, found objects in nature and we use these items to create. We have made ornaments, earrings, sculptures and more. In the last year, I’ve become transfixed by the natural beauty of birch bark and have become skilled at making unique earrings out of the material. Each piece is carefully selected, hand-sanded and sealed. Most incorporate metal and beautiful glass beads to bring out the beauty of the natural elements of each tiny piece of birch bark art. As a person with a strong affinity for the earth, sustainability and the wonder of Mother Nature, I see the limitless potential in birchbark. It begs to be incorporated into our lives, reminding us of the beauty of our world and the roots of our existence.
