I enjoy creating encaustic art because of its many applications. With encaustic medium, which I make by mixing beeswax, pigment, and damar tree resin, I create three-dimensional works, detailed pictures, and abstract pieces. My work is frequently composed on reclaimed wood and is often highly textured. Firing shellac with a torch is a technique I use to add abstract motion to my two-dimensional works.Encaustic art allows me to express my creativity and to encourage flexibility in my imagination. It provides me the opportunity to meet interesting people at a variety of venues and hel
ps me integrate within my community. In addition to being an artist, I also work in healthcare where I am concerned about others welfare, but creating art is a way to rejuvenate my own spirit while hopefully healing others as well. I find art to be a soothing and healing experience that helps me solidify my identity. My art is an intensely personal yet public form of expression.
