Russell Lemire

Russ has been drawing and painting for much of his life, with a strong interest in drawing ensuing from a very young age. Mostly self-taught, Russ studied watercolor painting with noted artist Carlton Plummer in Massachusetts, and has taken occasional painting and drawing workshops since. Several years ago he started working in acrylics and oils, expanding his range.

Many of his representational landscape paintings depict buildings either as the main subject or in a supporting role. “Old weathered barns and sheds are a favorite subject of mine, and Minnesota is abundant with a wonderful variety of old barns of all shapes and sizes, with interesting architectural styles and treatments. Most are still the centerpiece of fully functioning family farms. With Minnesota’s four distinct seasons and varied landscape, each farm can take on a different look and feel, giving me a generous supply of subject matter to paint from.”
