Andrea was born and grew up in Marion, Iowa.  She moved to Rochester in 1979 and was employed as an RN for five years.  In 1984 she moved to Indianapolis with her husband, where she learned pottery at the Indianapolis Art Center and then went to Herron School of Art.  She has worked in ceramics, painting, fiber, jewelry and multimedia.  She now displays art at the SEMVA Art Gallery in Rochester, Minnesota, Crossings at Carnegie in Zumbrota, Minnesota and the Campbell-Steele Gallery in Marion, Iowa.

She returned to Rochester in 1998 with her family and has been involved in the arts community since then.  She joined the SEMVA Art Gallery in 1999 and currently is President of the SEMVA Board.  She has also been very active in the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council (SEMAC) for the last seven years and is the current Vice-President of that Board. She is on the Board of the Rochester Arts Council and coordinated the ArtiGras Artist’s Village in the summer of 2009 for that organization.  She was asked to participate in the Rochester Art Center’s exhibition and benefit, “Palette to Palate” in 2009.  She also had a painting exhibited in Siheung City, South Korea in 2008 as part of an art exchange program.  Andrea has also been on a committee at Olmsted Medical Center, which is placing art from local artists into their 16 facilities.

Andrea has shown her art in 30 or more individual and group art exhibitions and various galleries since 1989.   She received Orginal Works Grants in 2003, 2004 and 2007 from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council.

Andrea got sent to the Principal’s Office in Kindergarden for coloring on the table.   I suppose that was the beginning of a love for color and patterns, but only after working as a RN and having children did she start studying art to become a professional artist.  She has long been interested in supporting art at the community level, by donating works of art to charities.
